Review: North Shore Billet, out of Squamish BC, just keeps offering up quality products and the “Into The Gnar” top cap is no different. Since 2003 they have been turning out high-quality CNC machine products for the bicycle industry. Located in the Rockies somewhere between Whistler and Squamish BC, you know their passion for biking is evident and excellence is found even in the smallest detail. Hence the Stem cap.
Call it what you want, a dust cover, top cap, stem lid, etc, chances are you probably have one. But why this one? Will I go faster? No. Will I improve my skills? No. Does it look cool? Of course!
Now since some of the lines are blurred between eMTB and MTB accessories, this product made sense for my peddle-assist eMountian Bike. At 12 grams it’s kinda light and weight is not an issue for me…even though it’s lite.
Will it fit? Most manufacturers follow standardized specifications for a specific application, but I still wanted to make sure. And yes! It will fit perfectly. 31.28mm in diameter and a pre drilled hole for the stem bolt.
Now the stem bolt wasn’t included, surprise! The guy behind counter threw it in and yes it was Titanium. Purchased from IMBY Cycles in Port Coquitlam.
Time for the install.
But the Kiox and bracket were in the way. In order to install the “Into The Gnar” stem-cap-dust-cover, I had to relocate the Kiox to the top tube (was gonna do that anyways).
The easiest part was about to take place. I flipped my “Into The Gnar” stem cap like a cheap loonie several times as I paced back and forth. Until …
…the moment of truth. At this time I must’ve got something in my eye because certain things became blurry and my face was wet. I wasn’t too worried though. The “Into The Gnar” stem cap by North Shore Billet is waterproof.
There were other flavours to choose from and the message on the cap is mostly personal. I’ll probably get some for the other EMTB bikes too. Could this be eMTB specific?
