I have a 2018 TL Carbon Comp. I have two 500wh batteries. I ride in the California Sierra. My usual rides are 20-30 miles and 2000-3000 ft of climbing and I can do these rides with one battery. For the bigger rides, a second battery is necessary for me. I have carried the second battery in my hydration pack and it is uncomfortable to me. I built these mounting brackets from .080 thick 6061 aluminum sheets with a jigsaw and bent it in a vice and with hand tools. I mocked up the templates in heavy paper and then cut and bent the AL sheet to match. Painted with flat black Rustoleum. The attaching bolts on the upper mounts are 6mmx120mm stainless cap screws with the ends ground and rounded to length washers and nyloc nuts. There is one part that I had to machine special which is an aluminum bushing that goes through the second battery mounting hole (axle sized about 12mm) with a 6mm hole, cut to length to allow the through bolt to tighten on the AL bushing. The lower bolt is 5mmx120mm cap screw, washers and nyloc nut. These bolts pass through the hollow motor and battery mounting bolts. I put a piece of Gorilla tape over the electrical connection on the second battery to protect it. The bottom plate serves as a bash plate of sorts. I still would not recommend hard hits but it does deflect the thrown rocks with a satisfying aluminum "bat" on rock sound.
It takes about 10 minutes to swap the batteries. I run an extra 10lbs in the front fork when I mount the second battery. I use the one Velcro strap just for safety, I don't think it is needed.
